Toward the end of Richard’s trip, Striped bass leap out of the water in an aquatic ballet on the Cooper River. Can you explain?
Richard departs from Stony Landing and Old Santee Canal Park (www.oldsanteecanalpark.org), and continues his adventure on the Cooper River.
Willard Strong of Santee Cooper describes the inland navigation route created by the project and how it figured into the filming of The Hunley. The unique habitat of the Striped Bass is also discussed.

Richard exits Lake Moultrie at the Pinopolis Dam, where a lock transports him into the Cooper River basin that will lead him toward Charleston.
Richard’s canoe adventure slogs through twelve hours and twenty-two miles of flat water toward the diversion canal that leads to Lake Moultrie.
Conditions are rough and rainy on days 15 and 16, so Richard recharges and takes refuge at Santee State Park.
